Life for cheetahs in the Serengeti is increasingly fragile.
While the Serengeti ecosystem offers vast open plains ideal for hunting, cheetahs struggle to survive alongside stronger predators such as lions and hyenas, which often kill cheetah cubs and steal their kills. As a result, only a small percentage of cubs reach adulthood.
Outside protected areas, expanding human settlements and livestock grazing reduce available space and increase conflict, limiting the cheetahs’ ability to move freely across the landscape. Conservation teams work on long-term monitoring, habitat protection, and community engagement to give cheetahs a fighting chance.
